In 1950, New York was the capital of the world and the greatest city on earth. In 1975, it was in decline, industry and corporations were leaving, white flight was in full flower, crime was rising, and the city was technically bankrupt. In 2010, the city was once again on top, with population gains in the hundreds of thousands, with declining crime, rising property values, and record-breaking tourism. Why is this? What draws people to Brooklyn today?

Please join the Columbia Alumni Association of Brooklyn (CAABK) for an exciting talk by Professor Ken Jackson, Jacques Barzun Professor of History, on Friday, April the 13th. If you have taken Professor Jackson's class, particularly the History of the City of New York, which is known for its midnight bike ride through the city, you know how riveting and mesmerizing a speaker he is.

The program will analyze the shifts in New York and Brooklyn history and will make predictions about the future. After the program, join us for a reception to continue the conversation with Professor Jackson. Light refreshments will be served. Please grab a ticket and join us for this insightful evening. Seating is limited.
